Central Oregon has no shortage of the good-hearted. We have an incredible amount of amazing people doing absolutely wonderful things. So we decided to highlight a few that you might be interested in donating to (whether that be money or time).
Here are just a few of the amazing organizations Central Oregon has to offer.
Sparrow Clubs not only provides financial and emotional support for children and their families in medical need, but also empowers kids (elementary to college age) to help others through charitable service in their communities. The Sparrow Clubs program teaches life lessons in compassion and selflessness through building relationships between a Sparrow family, a school student body, and our community. Sick kids get help, healthy kids become heroes and communities experience change.
For a homeless child, building self-confidence and self-esteem is a daily challenge. Devin’s Destiny’s mission is to provide a birthday celebration for every homeless child in our community and offer additional support in as many ways possible. Central Oregon currently has 1100+ children attending school each day, but with no home to return to each night. These are the children the school district knows of. There’s no way to determine how many more there may be. Imagine how sad it is for a child to be homeless, but imagine even more how sad they must feel on their birthday. Their objective is to provide at least one day each year where they have a celebration.
Deschutes Children’s Foundation’s mission is to create a community where all children and families have the resources they need to thrive. They do this by providing the space and support where nonprofits succeed at helping children and families.
Bend Habitat works with qualified, deserving families to help them realize the dream of owning their own home. Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Bend Area Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to providing affordable homeownership opportunities for families and individuals in Bend. Over the past 29 years, Bend Area Habitat has built 123 homes and repaired 70 more, providing more than 600 children and adults with safe, secure and healthy homes.
Heart of Oregon Corps is a Central Oregon non-profit engaging local opportunity youth, ages 16-24. Every year, they provide job skills training, education, and leadership development to over 300 local young people who face major barriers to success. They are empowering a generation of young people to believe in themselves and achieve self-sufficiency.
CASA of Central Oregon pairs children in foster care with community volunteers who provide advocacy, mentoring, and support in the courtroom and beyond. CASAs do what no one else does – they get to know the child and speak solely for the child’s best interest in court. When a child is in foster care, their CASA may be the only consistent person in their life.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon helps children realize their potential and build their futures. They nurture children and strengthen communities. Big Brothers Big Sisters pairs an adult with a child in need of guidance, mentorship and someone to look up to. By doing this they provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
ONDA encourages people to get to know the desert and to take steps to conserve these public lands. The ONDA community defends public lands from threats, partners with public and private land managers to preserve natural values, encourages the exploration of wild places, and restores lands and waters to give desert creatures places in which to thrive.
OAS provides life-changing outdoor recreation experiences to individuals with disabilities. Participants gain confidence, build self-esteem and strive for independence leading to an enhanced quality of life.
The Bethlehem Inn is a community-supported emergency shelter that provides a warm, safe place to sleep, nourishing meals, and case management services for adults and children experiencing homelessness in Central Oregon. This life-saving and life-changing work could NOT be done without the generosity of this community.
